SHI bags LNG carrier order for European owner

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries on Monday said it won a new order to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

The vessel is being built for a European owner, with SHI not disclosing the tanker’s capacity.

The deal is worth 209 billion South Korean Won ($187.7 million), SHI said in its statement, adding that the delivery is scheduled for March 31, 2021.

Samsung Heavy Industries noted it has signed 49 contracts over the course of the year totaling $6.3 billion. Orders include 18 LNG carriers, 13 container ships, 15 tanker and shuttle tankers, and 3 special ships.
