SIGTTO names new president

The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) has been appointed David Furnival of Bernhard Schulte Ship Management as the society’s new president.

At the same time Christopher Bailey of BP Shipping has been appointed vice president, according to SIGTTO’s statement.

Furnival succeeds Luc Gillet of Total who has stepped down after a three-year term as SIGTTO president.

Previous to the new appointments, SIGTTO developed the LNG and LPG experience matrix guidelines for use. According to the society’s statement, the matrix has been developed “after it had become apparent that the number of inconsistent matrices were being used by terminals and charterers within the LNG and LPG industry.”

These inconsistencies were considered to be potentially counter-productive to safety, particularly as stopgap measures might be taken to ensure temporary compliance with the requirements of different terminals or charterers, according to the documents.

The matrix was recommended as a voluntary tool for  assessing and managing risk and it was anticipated that it might be adopted as the industry standard from which to assess the adequacy of experience and training for officers serving onboard LNG/LPG carriers.
