China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) started trial operation at the Fuling LNG plant in Chongqing, China’s first facility to produce the chilled fuel from shale gas.

Sinopec said in its statement that the plant is a joint project with the Chongqing Municipal Government, and will have a 3 million cubic meters per day production capacity or 680,000 tons of LNG per year.

The facility, that entered trial operations on December 20 is being developed in three stages and will provide alternative fuel for road and marine transport in Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan and other neighboring provinces and cities.

Sinopec aims to promote the utilization of shale gas and extend the shale gas industry chain by securing energy supply in Chongqing and its surrounding areas.
