Sirius Orders Two Tankers at AVIC Dingheng

Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping has placed an order for two 7,999 dwt oil/chemical tankers at China’s AVIC Dingheng Shipyard.

The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2018, Sirius said without revealing the value of the contract.

The 9,500 cbm tankers will have ICE class 1A and will be equipped with the latest technology and comply with the future regulations, such as TIER III.

The 119-meter vessels will be of an ”EVOlution” design developed jointly by FKAB Marine Designs and Sirius.

“The development of the EVOlution series begun in 2012 with focus on fuel economy. With the knowledge built up in Sirius since then, we are now confident and ready to order two units,” Jonas Backman, Managing Director at Sirius, said.

The vessels are designed with a two-stroke main engine that is compatible to be converted to run on LNG, the deck strength and stability is designed so that two LNG-tanks can be mounted on deck.

The engines onboard will be equipped with exhaust gas cleaning, HPSCR for the main engine and a Catamizer for the aux engines, expected to reduce the NOx level to below 2g NOx / kWh.

Sirius currently owns and operates eleven chemical/tanker vessels in the North- and Baltic Sea trade, and one LNG supply vessel in to port of Stockholm.
