Skrugard and Havis Discoveries Renamed to Johan Castberg Field (Norway)

Norwegian Petroleum and Energy Minister Ola Borten Moe decided to rename Skrugard and Havis discoveries to Johan Castberg field, according to Barents Observer.

He announced the new name at the Barents Sea Conference in Hammerfest.

Johan Castberg was born in 1862 and he was a Norwegian jurist and politician best known for representing the Labour Democrats.

He was a government minister and also served seven terms in the Norwegian Parliament.

Preliminary volume estimates for Johan Castberg are 400-600 million barrels.

Johan Castberg discovery is located about 100 km north of Snøhvit, 150 km from Goliath, and almost 240 km from Melkøya.

Statoil is the operator of the licenses with 50% stake, Eni holds 30% and Petoro 20% stake.
