South Korean SHICO Shipyard to Build Marin Teknikk Designed PSV

Marin Teknikk AS has signed an agreement with Shinan Heavy Ind. Co., Ltd. in Korea for design and engineering of the company’s new PSV vessel. The vessel is a Multipurpose Field Supply Vessel & Pipe carrier of MT6015 PSV design, with diesel electric frequency controlled propulsion, highly efficient azimuth thrusters and a dynamic positioning system, DP II.

The vessel has a large under deck tank capacity. The vessel has a length of 93.8 m and a breadth of 20 m, with accommodation capacity for 25 persons. The cargo deck area is of 1060 sq.m. and have possibilities for carrying 5 pipe lengths.

The vessel is planned to be delivered in first quarter of 2013.

Shinan Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.(SHICO), established in 2005 by it’s mother company Young Chang Heavy Industries Co., Ltd,  has started shipbuilding, plant, offshore, steel structure and steel-bridge business. With the growing shipbuilding market and the vitalized development in Southwest of Korean Peninsula, SHICO has extended its business lines with advanced technology, and it has been contributing to the nation-wide growth as an integrated heavy industry player.

Marin Teknikk AS is mainly based on designing and projecting different types of ships for the offshore market and fishing vessels world wide. Mt-Design has now become a well known reputable ship designer in the international maritime industry. Design and project work is performed by means of advanced computer programs. This has been the case since 1982 when MT started to use AutoCad for Computer Aided Design and in 1984 when MT bought the first computer and software for stability calculations. In 2005 Mt choose the Sener- FORAN-CAD/CAM/CAE Design, Engineering and Production System tool for 3D modelling of forms definition for naval architecture, steel structure, machinery and outfitting, electrical, accommodation, from conceptual design to detail engineering in design and construction of vessels. MT is also a major user of DNV’s Nautical and SESAM software package for modelling and strenght analysis. MT is also working with DNV as a chosen member in a limited group of companies developing a new IntelliShip full suite solution system that provides all the capabilities needed to design and build a ship.
