Sovcomflot’s 2nd LNG Carrier Launched

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co.Ltd. has launched the second of two ice class gas carriers, the SCF Mitre.

The ultramodern Atlanicmax LNG carriers, with cargo capacity of approximately 170,000 m³, are provided with equipment suitable for operating in low temperature conditions. These vessels are designed for the year-round transportation of gas from all existing LNG terminals, including Sakhalin-II – Russia’s first LNG project.

The vessels were ordered by Sovcomflot as part of a long-term agreement with Shell. The first ship – SCF Melampus – was launched on November 5th 2013.

Delivery of SCF Melampus is scheduled for late 2014, SCF Mitre – for early 2015.
