The Thor Magni seismic support vessel has been christened in Turkey. The vessel of the Skipsteknisk ST-204 SSV design is owned by P/F Thor, a company based in the Faroe Islands.

This is the first vessel in a series of four. Built at Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey, the vessel is 64.4 meters long and 14.5 meters wide. The official delivery to the owner will take place in a few days.

According to Skipsteknisk, a Norway-based ship designer, the ST-204 SSV-design vessel can accommodate a crew of 60.

The seismic support vessel is fitted with a diesel electric propulsion system comprising 4 x 900rpm generator sets and twin shaft nozzled propellers, providing a max speed in excess of 14 knots and a bollard pull of 50t.

Thor Magni will go directly on a long term charter with PGS, a Norway-based seismic data acquisition specialist.
