Star of Abu Dhabi Bulker to Be Arrested after Collision

Business & Finance

The 2009-built bulk carrier Star of Abu Dhabi faces detention after it collided with a dock used by a US sugar refinery in Gramercy, Louisiana.

According to the US court records, the Gramercy-based Louisiana Sugar Refining filed a lawsuit against the managers and owners of the vessel under which it secured the arrest of the vessel.

The plaintiff claims that the collision caused some USD 20 million of damage to the company’s dock, and that the incident could influence its profits.

The 81,426 dwt bulker, owned by Abu Dhabi Shipping International, reportedly drifted to the facility after it broke from its anchor on March 25.

Star of Abu Dhabi is currently moored off Geismar, the latest AIS data shows.
