Statoil awards 3-year deals to Havila’s platform suppliers

Norwegian oil company Statoil has awarded compatriot offshore vessel operator Havila Shipping contracts for two of the company’s platform supply vessels.

Havila said on Wednesday that the contracts are for three years with three optional periods each of one year for each vessel.

The contracts are for the Havila Foresight and Havila Charisma vessels which are in direct continuation of existing contracts.

For Havila Charisma, the firm contract with Statoil will run until mid-December 2020, with optional periods until December 2023. The contract for the Havila Foresight will run until January 1, 2021, with optional periods until January 1, 2024.

Statoil and Havila have agreed to keep the financial terms of the two contracts confidential.

Under the terms of the contract, Havila Shipping will install a battery package for each vessel and a solution to use electricity from shore at port. The company stated that the investments would have a considerable environmental effect through reduced fuel consumption.

Through this deal, Statoil is increasing the number of chartered vessels running on battery solutions. Namely, Statoil on Tuesday awarded a five-year deal to the Far Searcher vessel with an obligation to install an energy storage system while the Far Sun, working for the oil major since 2014, will also be modified to run on battery power.
