Stena Drilling secures another rig gig

Offshore driller Stena Drilling has signed a contract with Timor Sea Oil & Gas Australia Pty Limited (TOGA) for the Stena Clyde semi-submersible drilling rig.

The rig owner said on Thursday that the campaign for TOGA, a subsidiary of Northern Oil & Gas Australia Pty Limited (NOGA), is around 30 days and will start around April or May this year.

Stena Clyde has been kept warm stacked for a period of time in Darwin, Australia.

Stena noted that this workscope now represents a great opportunity for the Stena Clyde as the unit remains active and competitive in Australian waters.

The Stena Clyde is a twin pontoon, column stabilized drilling unit, of an Aker H3 design. The vessel has been modified with an additional six stability columns to provide adequate operating deck load for operations in 1,640ft water depths. It was built by Rauma Rupola in 1976 and modified in 1985 and 1997.

This is the second contract award for Stena in less than a week. Namely, Nexen Petroleum earlier this week awarded a contract to the Stena Spey drilling rig for work in the UK Central North Sea.

In addition, Stena at the end of January signed a contract with Energean for the development drilling of the Karish field, offshore Israel.

Stena Drilling will deploy the Stena Forth drillship “or such substitute as may be agreed by the parties” to drill three development wells in Q1 2019, subject to Energean’s Final Investment Decision (FID) regarding the Karish and Tanin gas fields.
