Stena Superfast VIII Ferry Breaks Loose from Berth

High winds that were sweeping across Ireland and Britain caused the Stena Superfast VIII ferry to break away from its moorings yesterday and drift from its berth in Belfast Port.

Tugs from the port were dispatched to help the ferry maneuver back on to the berth, Stena spokesman said.

Once back at berth, passengers disembarked at the Stena Line terminal.

The ferry, which had 18 passengers on board and 55 crew, had its departure delayed due to stormy weather.

The bad weather conditions have resulted in cancellation of several other  ferry sailings as well, including some from Larne and Dublin, the Irish News reports.

Stena Superfast VIII operates on the Belfast-Cairnryan route.
