Stena to order four LNG-ready RoPax ferries

Stena Line of Sweden informed on Tuesday it has signed a deal for an order of four LNG-ready RoPax ferries to be built by AVIC Shipyard in China.

According to Stena’s statement, the vessels are scheduled for delivery during 2019 and 2020, and the agreement includes an option for additional four vessels.

The vessels will have a capacity of more than 3 000 lane meters in a drive-through configuration and will accommodate about 1 000 passengers. Stena added that the main engines will be “gas ready”, prepared to be fueled by either methanol or LNG.

Carl-Johan Hagman, Managing Director of Stena Line said the newly designed RoPax ferries will be 50 percent larger than the standard vessels and will be used within Stena Lines route network in Northern Europe.

The order is subject to board approval by the end of April.
