Subsea Processing: Single Phase vs Multiphase and Pipeline Surveys

One of many interesting technical sessions today at OEEC 2015 was Subsea Processing.

The session discussed the latest developments in subsea processing solutions including water removal and re-injection or disposal, boosting, gas separation and gas compression. Experts on the topic presented the viability of subsea processing for both green fields and brown fields.

Especially interesting discussion was sparked whether single phase or multiphase subsea boosting is the future.

Arne Birger Olsen Director Sales – ECR OneSubsea covered details related to the scope of supply for the Gullfaks field (Statoil) in the North Sea and the pump system to Total’s GirRI Project and further provided an updated status after the installation was completed.

Statoil with partners Petoro and OMV have started the world’s first wet gas compression on the seabed of the North Sea Gullfaks field.

The unique technology will increase recovery by 22 million barrels of oil equivalent (oe) and extend plateau production by around two years from the Gullfaks South Brent reservoir.

The system consists of a 420-tonne protective structure, a compressor station with two five-megawatt compressors totalling 650 tonnes, and all equipment needed for power supply and system control on the platform.

Total’s GirRI Project is a brownfield development offshore Angola in block 17 and represents the first application of OneSubsea technology where the differential pressure is higher than 100 bar, rated at 130 bar.

Rombout Swanborn Head Upstream Sulzer talked about the latest developments in separation technology and, building on over two decades of R&D, its possible and proven deployment in subsea production.

Ola Oskarsson, Founder and CTO MMT Sweden AB presented experiences and results from 60 days field test of revolutionary new survey methods.

The effect of high resolution and high speed promises cost effective surveys with astonishing results.

The Session was moderated by Pieter Swart Subsea Pipeline and Materials Team Lead A/S Norske Shell.
