Swiber’s anchor handling tug grounds off Mexico

Swiber Torunn, an anchor handling tug belonging to the offshore services provider Swiber Holdings, reportedly ran aground on January 2 in Dos Bocas port in the Gulf of Mexico.

The tug was heading for the port of Dos Bocas, Mexico, where it was supposed to hide from the big waves caused by bad weather. However, the vessel grounded at the mouth of the port.

According to local media, 15 crew members were on board, but rescue operations had been hampered by the weather conditions. The port itself was closed as more vessels have stranded in the vicinity.

The Swiber Torunn is a Mexico-flagged tug built in 2008 disposing of 5.000 BHP.

Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Swiber for more information on the circumstances of this event and we will update the article should we get a response.
