Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) has won a contract to build 3 plus 2 318.000 DWT very large crude carriers (VLCCs) for China Merchants Energy shipping (CNES). It is reported that this series of vessels is the latest generation of environmentally friendly VLCCs, optimized and designed by SWS and MARIC.

The highlights of the upgrade included EEDI, which is over 20% lower than the baseline of MARPOL regulation, and fuel oil consumption per day, which is over 20% lower than the previous ones as well as the latest generation M/E and ballast water treatment system being installed.

The Chairman of CSSC, Mr. Hu Wenming and the CEO of China Merchants Group, Mr. Li Jianhong attended the signing ceremony and delivered speeches respectively.
