Tanker Refloated after Grounding off Maldives

The 1983-built oil product tanker Guraab has been refloated after it ran aground on a reef at Lhaviyani Felivaru, Maldives, according to media reports.

The vessel was on its way to Male’ from Milandhoo when it ran into trouble, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) was cited as saying.

Guraab, which was carrying petrol, ran aground in the early morning hours on October 16, local time. The vessel was refloated in the evening hours the same day.

World Maritime News contacted MNDF for more details on the matter, however, they are yet to reply.

At the time of the incident, the vessel was crewed by 12 seafarers. There were no reports of injuries to the crew or water pollution following the grounding.
