Technip Wins Union Boycott Case in Norway

The Norwegian Labor Court has ruled in favor of Technip in the case against Industri Energi (IE) and the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) over the alleged “breach of peace obligation”.

Nevertheless, it was a close call with four against three judges ruling against IE.

Earlier this year, NHO, as the main representative organisation for Norwegian employers, and Technip Norway, took legal action against Norway’s offshore union, Industri Energi and its boycott of Technip Singapore claiming the boycott was directed against the Norwegian part of Technip.

IE claimed that the boycott notice was directed to Technip Singapore PTE after the company rejected the collective agreement for its offshore workers engaged on the Norwegian shelf.

As a result of the court’s ruling, Industri Energi will now have to revoke the boycott notification and look for alternative options to get the collective agreement in place.
