TGS wins contract extensions in Norway, about to start 3D survey in Brazil

Norwegian energy data and intelligence company TGS has secured an extension for its current contracts with what it says is a major international energy company, for reservoir monitoring and source services on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

The contracts cover the provision of reservoir monitoring and source services related to permanent reservoir monitoring (PRM) and 4D ocean bottom node (OBN) surveys on the NCS.

Both extensions have a nominal five-year duration, until 2030, with options to extend for a further five-year period.

Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, said: “We are very pleased that our client extends the current contracts for another five-year period, which ensures continuity of our PRM and source business combined with repeat 4D OBN surveys. The contract renewal is a testament that our PRM and OBN services provide the highest quality seismic results in a cost-effective manner.”

TGS also today announced the expansion of its multi-client seismic coverage in the Malay Basin with the Peninsular Malaysia 3D Mega Merge Stage 4 Reprocessing project.

Stage 4 extends the regional dataset by reprocessing and merging approximately 16,000 square kilometers of legacy 3D seismic data covering key exploration blocks relevant to upcoming Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) opportunities.

The project is undertaken in collaboration with joint venture and processing partner DUG.

Furthermore, the Norwegian company is set to mobilize a Ramform Titan-class vessel for the Pelotas Norte Phase I multi-client 3D survey in the Pelotas Basin offshore southern Brazil later in the fourth quarter of the year, with project duration running into Q3 2026.

Phase I will encompass approximately 14,800 square kilometers across 21 exploration blocks, the majority of which lie in un-held acreage expected to be included in upcoming bid rounds.

“By leveraging our advanced acquisition capabilities and imaging expertise this survey will help our clients to better understand the basin’s geological structures and derisk future exploration activities. Following the announcement of two large multi-client surveys in the Equatorial Margin earlier in Q3, the addition of Pelotas Norte Phase I brings the number of Ramform Titan-class vessels working offshore Brazil to three for the remainder of this year and well into next.”
