Ice-Breaking Multipurpose Support Vessel Serkeborg Launched

On June 28th, at Koninklijke Niestern Sander, the Serkeborg, second in a series of ice-breaking multipurpose support-vessels (bollard-pull 34 ton) was launched for Wagenborg Offshore.

The Sanaborg and the Serkeborg are the first in a series of icebreakers suitable for shallow waters, that are deployed in the Caspian Sea. The vessels are specifically designed for logistics services to the oil and gas in shallow water and ice.

The propulsion of the IMSV is done by two Caterpillar 3516C-TierII 2000ekW diesel generator sets, electric two rotating propellers (Icepods) drive. The Icepods were developed with Wärtsilä especially for this application.

The expected delivery is planned for September.

Royal Niestern Sander is well established in the area of shipbuilding for merchant shipping and inland shipping. The company has its own Design and Support Unit/Engineering Office for the design, modification and optimal support of the orders. It is also a member of Conoship International BV, a cooperative marketing, design and consultancy/advice centre of three Northern Dutch shipyards.

The reference list contains building orders for chemical tankers, research vessels, offshore vessels and a range of ship types for the carriage of dry cargoes.
