Three Bulkers Chartered to Hanjin Shipping Sold

Three bulk carriers chartered to the South Korean shipping company Hanjin Shipping have been sold following the company’s filing for court receivership amid a persistent downturn in the shipping industry.

Namely, the vessels in question are the 2011-built Hanjin Matsuyama, and two 2012-built bulkers Hanjin Isabel and Hanjin Liverpool, according to data provided by VesselsValue.

The 179,200 dwt Hanjin Matsuyama was sold by Japanese shipowner Kumiai Senpaku to China’s Winning Shipping for USD 22.7 million. The two smaller vessels, the 36,800 dwt Hanjin Isabel and 36,900 dwt Hanjin Liverpool were sold by South Korea-based HI Investment and Securities to unknown Greek owners for USD 8.2 million and USD 7.9 million, respectively.

These might not be the only Hanjin Shipping vessels being disposed, as two more ships are reportedly up for sale, Reuters cited ship brokers.

After the ailing container carrier filed for court receivership at the end of August, a number of its vessels were refused services at various ports while other shipping companies severed all ties with Hanjin Shipping.

Although some of its ships have docked over the last few days to discharge containers, the majority of its fleet remains either idle at offshore anchorages or are slowed down at sea, with 75 out of 97 ships it operates still stuck with cargo on board, Alphaliner earlier said.
