Thun Tankers orders dual-fuel quartet at Ferus Smit

Thun Tankers, a Dutch unit of the Swedish shipping company Erik Thun ordered four dual-fuel coastal tankers at Scheepswerf Ferus Smit in the Netherlands.

The intention is to offer sister-ships where the use of LNG as a fuel is a possibility, Thunk Tankers said in a statement on Friday.

Erik Thun, the parent company of Thun Tankers has already cooperated with Ferus Smit shipyard through JT cement, in which it cooperates with KG Jebsen Cement from Norway, when it ordered two LNG-fueled cement tankers the MV Greenland and the MV Ireland.

According to Johan Källsson, deputy managing director, Erik Thun, said that, with this order, the company intends to build a series of sister vessels that can be fueled by liquefied natural gas as fuel upon customer demand.

The four 7,999-dwt coastal tankers are scheduled for delivery from the fourth quarter in 2018 onwards.
