SSV Maersk Connector Launched at Damen

Senior representatives of Maersk Supply Service, DeepOcean UK and the Damen Shipyards Group witnessed the launching of subsea support vessel Maersk Connector at Damen Shipyards Galati.

The vessel is owned and operated by Maersk Supply Service and is built to contract for a seven year charter agreement with DeepOcean.

Maersk Connector is the second of a new generation of cable-laying vessels developed by the Damen Shipyards Group. The 7,000 tonne carousel makes it well suited for installation and burial projects from land-fall to deep water and also for operations in remote geographical locations.


Skandi Africa Leaves VARD Shipyard

The Skandi Africa is a DP class 3 offshore subsea construction vessel, built for Norwegian offshore vessel owner DOF and chartered by French contractor Technip.

The video shows VARD 3 12-design newbuild as it departs the shipyard at Vard Søviknes.

The vessel, build by VARD, arrived at the Huisman Schiedam quayside, at the end of March, for its final outfitting.


Statoil: Åsgard Subsea Gas Compression Plant Online

Statoil and its partners put the first subsea gas compression facility online at Åsgard in the Norwegian Sea.

Subsea compression will add some 306 million barrels of oil equivalent to total output over the field’s life.

The project started in 2005, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 2012. Overall, project cost were just above NOK 19 billion (USD 2.3 Bln).


IHC Launches PLSV Sapura Rubi

Royal IHC has named and launched the pipelaying support vessel Sapura Rubi in a ceremony at the company’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands.

The Sapura Rubi was ordered by Sapura Navegação Marítima, a joint venture between SapuraKencana and Seadrill. It is the fifth in a series of five fully integrated pipelaying vessels completely designed, engineered and built by IHC.

The naming ceremony was performed by Glaucia Maciel, Human Resource Manager of Sapura Navegação Marítima S.A.


TEN Subsea Manifolds Loadout

The TEN Project’s four subsea manifolds and two riser bases were fabricated by FMC Technologies in Houston, USA. They were loaded out onto a transport vessel on their way to Ghana to be installed on the seabed in the TEN fields.

Operated by Tullow, the TEN Project is Ghana’s second major oil development. The project takes its name from the three offshore fields under development, Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme which are situated in the Deepwater Tano block, around 60 kilometers offshore Western Ghana.


Saipem Presents Normand Maximus OSCV

The video shows Saipem’s offshore subsea construction vessel Normand Maximus. With Normand Maximus, the Italian contractor aims to combine SURF installation with field development activities in ultra-deep water.

The vessel is a VARD 3 19 design, developed by Vard Design in Ålesund. The vessel has a 550-ton top tension vertical lay-system, enabling the installation of large diameter flexible pipes in ultra-deepwater environments.


Wreck of Musashi Battleship Found

Paul G. Allen, a philanthropist and entrepreneur, has located the wreck of Musashi, a Japanese WWII battleship.

Allen and his team of researchers began their search for the Musashi more than eight years ago.

Using historical records from four countries, detailed undersea topographical data and advanced technology aboard his yacht, M/Y Octopus, Allen and his team located the battleship in the Sibuyan Sea on March 1, 2015.


Aker’s Road to Åsgard Subsea Gas Compression Delivery

The world’s first subsea gas compression system went on stream September 17 at the Statoil-operated Åsgard field. Aker Solutions delivered the subsea compression system for this field development.

Aker Solutions in December 2010 was awarded the contract by Statoil to deliver the system, which consists of modules for two identical sets of compressors, pumps, scrubbers and coolers fitted together in an 1,800-metric ton steel frame.


Building Island Venture

The video shows the largest offshore vessel so far from Norwegian Ulstein Verft the ‘Island Venture’, hull number 302.

The Ulstein SX165-design vessel measures 159.9 meters in length and 30 meters in the beam. It was redesigned and increased in both length and beam during the engineering phase (was originally 147.5 metres long with a beam of 28 metres).

Island Venture is jointly owned by Island Offshore and Edison Chouest Offshore.


IHC Launches Subsea 7’s SEVEN RIO

IHC launched Subsea 7’s 550t pipelaying vessel, SEVEN RIO, at its shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands.

The naming ceremony was carried out by Anelise Lara, Petrobras Executive Manager for the Libra Project.

With an overall length of 146 metres, a beam of 30 metres and a Class-2 dynamic positioning system, the vessel is equipped for transporting and installing flexible flowlines and umbilicals in water depths of up to 3,000 metres.
