Total, CNPC extend collaboration

France’s Total and China National Petroleum Company signed a strategic agreement to extend the cooperation between the two companies.

The deal was signed by Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of Total and Wang Yilin, chairman of CNPC in Beijing on Sunday, Total revealed in a statement.

The two companies have already cooperated on projects such as the 16.5 mtpa Yamal LNG project in Russia, that is set to start producing liquefied natural gas in 2017.

After signing the agreement, Pouyanné said the two companies are looking to strengthen the cooperation and jointly develop new projects.

Total agreed to “share its expertise” in the areas of safety and environment, human resources and social responsibility with CNPC.

The agreement also advances the support to the international strategy of CNPC’s unit PetroChina.
