Triyards to Build Taiwan Research Vessel

Ezra’s shipbuilder Triyards has secured work for approximately USD 45.5 million as it explores alternative markets to the offshore oil & gas sector.

One of the new contracts is for the construction of a scientific research vessel for Taiwan Ocean Research Institute, National Applied Research Laboratories (TORI), a Taiwan government agency.

According to the company, the vessel is scheduled for completion in the financial year ending August 31, 2017 (FY17).

The USD 26.4-million workboat will be diesel electric-powered and used to support on-going research activities of the TORI.

In addition, Triyards’ subsidiary Strategic Marine secured orders for two wind farm crew transfer vessels and for a high speed passenger ferry, by new clients based in the United Kingdom and New Caledonia.

Triyards’ chief executive officer, Chan Eng Yew, said: “Over the past year, not only were we able to swiftly grow our orderbook, but we have also diversified our client and product mix, entrenching ourselves further in new areas such as the renewable energy sector.

“We will continue to extend the reputation we have established in the O&G sector to strengthen our position in new industries with good growth opportunities.”
