UK: FES to Supply DBSCs for Maersk Gryphon FPSO

FES International has secured a $4.7M order to supply, Maersk Oil UK with 22 bespoke diverless bend stiffener connectors (DBSC) for its Gryphon FPSO vessel in the North Sea.

The FES DBSCs are designed to enable quick, efficient and cost effective installation of Riser and Umbilical Bend Stiffeners in often congested or confined areas. The latching mechanisms on these DBSCs have been tailored and manufactured to fit Maersk Oil’s requirement, providing an automatic intervention which offers safer and more reliable connections.

The Gryphon, usually based off the Aberdeen coast, has been out of action since suffering damage during a storm in February and has been docked in Rotterdam while it receives the necessary repairs. The FPSO had been producing from the Gryphon, Maclure and Tullich fields. Storm weather caused some of its anchors to snap, allowing it to move off station before the vessel was secured again.

Managing Director of FES International, Rob Anderson said:

“The decision by Maersk Oil to commission us for this urgent repair work is testament to our ability to provide unquestionable quality within flexible timeframes.

“This level of work would usually have been planned over a 9 month period, however to meet Maersk Oil’s requirements we agreed we could deliver the work within 17 weeks.”
