UK: Macduff Ship Design Bags Its Largest Single Contract

Macduff Ship Design Bags Its Largest Single Contract

In June 2012, Macduff Ship Design Ltd secured it’s largest single contract to date for a total of ten vessels comprising five new designs. The order has been placed by Torgem in Turkey who are building the vessels for Saudi Arabia.

The vessels range from a 15m general service boat, 15m pilot boat and a 25m ASD tug through to a 30m ASD tug and a 46m oil collection barge.

Macduff is able to offer all of its designs as kits. These kits are produced using the latest 3 Dimensional surface modelling software which allows us to fully fair Macduff’s hull models. From this faired hull model plate profiles can be extracted and this information is then used to produce a set of pre cut, pre numbered components which are supplied to the prospective builder in a ‘flat pack’ format. A full set of assembly plans are also supplied with the kit detailing the order in which the components are to be assembled. Macduff Ship Design Ltd have supplied profiling information for vessels from 8 to 60 metres.

The advantage of this type of construction is the tremendous accuracy that can be achieved with the profiles, this means that the builder has no lofting to do and no green material to trim from plates. It saves the builder time and money and the end result is a much fairer hull form.

Where builders have their own CNC cutting facilities Macduff Ship Design Ltd can supply the cutting information and assembly plans only.
