UK: Officials Announce Port Ellen Terminal Reconstruction Works

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited has announced that the pier reconstruction works at Port Ellen Ferry Terminal, Isle of Islay, are due to continue until Spring 2012.

The works consist primarily of sheet piling around the existing pier structure, which are being undertaken from land. There will also be some dredging/excavation, which will be subject to further advice by Notice to Mariners in due course once timeframes are confirmed.

“The fish quays will remain open for the duration of the works and safe navigational passage will be maintained at all times for all commercial and recreational users of the inner harbour at Port Ellen,” said Ramsay Muirhead, the Civil Engineer of Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited.
