UK: Plymouth University and TRESOC Researching River Dart Tidal Potential

Plymouth University and Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) are testing one of Devon’s deepest river’s tidal potential, writes BBC.

They will conduct a feasibility study on the potential effects stemming from putting tidal turbines on the 20m deep river bed of the River Dart at Dittisham.

Due to the water depth, tidal turbine would not affect the passing vessels as they would be deep below the water surface.

Daniel Conley, from Plymouth University, said for BBC: “This kind of development has very minimal environmental impact and I think that’s a big advantage.”

TRESOC has granted GBP 1,000 for this research which received consent of the Dart Harbour Board.
