UK: Researchers Assess River Dart’s Tidal Energy Potential

UK Researchers Assess River Dart's Tidal Energy Potential

Plymouth University and Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) commenced a feasibility research on tidal potential of River Dart at Dittisham, reports BBC.

The researchers will assess the river’s potential to generate electricity through the turbines on the river bed.

Dart Harbour Board gave its consent for the research.

After the completion of the survey, researchers will be capable of deciding which type of turbines will be suitable for the river site.

According to Plymouth University and TRESOC representatives, development of the turbines will have minimal impact on environment and on passing vessels because of the depth of riverbed.

As BBC informs TRESOC will contribute £1,000 for research costs.
