Ukraine targeting complete energy independence
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the country can reach energy independence if it increases its own gas production.
He added that this is possible due to a new tax policy in the energy sector. According to his statement, Ukraine has already cut its dependence on Russian gas and now buys 70% of its gas supplies from EU member states.
“The goal of the Government of Ukraine is to make Ukraine completely energy independent within ten years,” Yatsenyuk said.
Moreover, Minister added that the independent American company Frontera could consider a realization of an LNG import project in Ukraine. It has recently also signed a memorandum of understanding with Naftogaz of Ukraine to cooperate in the development of oil and gas in Ukraine.
