UMM Salal Runs Aground off Malaysia

An ultra large container vessel (ULCV) owned by the UAE-based United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has run aground off Port Klang, Malaysia, according to Marine Traffic data. 

The 13,500 TEU UMM Salal is currently located in the Malacca Strait, the ship’s AIS data shows.

The boxship, built by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in 2011, is deployed in UASC’s Asia/Gulf Express 1 (AGX1) service.

Featuring a length of 365.9 meters and a width of 51.2 meters, UMM Salal flies the flag of Malta.

World Maritime News contacted UASC for more details on the incident, however, the company is yet to reply.
