Update: Vessel Traffic Partially Resumes at Izmit Bay

Vessel traffic has resumed at Izmit Bay in Turkey for some terminals only and other areas remain restricted, following a stoppage due to the fuel oil spill on January 13, 2017, GAC said.

As previously informed, the source of the spill was a leak at one of the shore tanks at Poliport Terminal.

“Due to the pollution caused by the leakage at one of the shore tanks of Poliport Terminal in Izmit Bay, the Harbour Master has decided to resume vessel traffic but with special attention as there are still restricted areas,” according to GAC.

The berthing and departure of the vessels to Izmit Bay ports will be conducted in a controlled manner with special attention, GAC said.

Izmit Bay or Gulf of Izmit is located at the eastern part of the Sea of Marmara, Kocaeli Province.
