US Department of Energy to issue MHK funding call

US Department of Energy’s (DoE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) plans to issue a funding call to support the research, testing, and development of marine and hydrokinetic (MHK) technologies.

EERE intends to make multiple financial assistance awards in the form of cooperative agreements through the upcoming funding opportunity announcement (FOA), expected to be issued in mid-December 2016.

The FOA will support the MHK reseach and development projects in two topic areas:

  1. System advancement and subscale testing of high energy capture wave energy converters
  2. Open topic on MHK technology development

The objective of the first topic is to design and build high energy capture wave energy converters and conduct scaled fully operational system testing in open water. The estimated period of performance for each award will be up to 3.5 years.

The second topic targets the development of innovative technologies that have the potential to significantly advance MHK technologies and the state of the MHK industry.

This topic area is intended to be open so that potential applicants can propose activities which address the needs that are most important to their present technology development. The estimated period of performance for each award under this topic is up to 2 years.
