USA: Anadarko Strikes Gas Near Independence Hub

Anadarko Petroleum Corp today revealed that it has discovered natural gas at its Cheyenne East prospect in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, near the company’s Independence Hub facility.

The exploration well encountered 50 foot of high-quality gas pay, Chuck Meloy, Anadarko’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said at Jefferies Global Energy Conference in Houston.

First production from the well is expected next year, according to Meloy.

The Independence Hub facility, near the discovery, was moored in a record breaking water depth of 2438 m (8000 ft), with a world record for the deepest flow line installation of 2743 m (9000 ft) some 110 miles from the Mississippi River Delta.
