USA: AWT Wins Prestigious Safety at Sea Award

Applied Weather Technology, Inc. (AWT), today announced that an expert judging panel has selected AWT, with its innovative fleet management system GlobalView™, as the winner of the Systems category for the fifth annual Safety at Sea International Awards. AWT was also recognized as a finalist in the category of Security.

“Enhancing the safety of crew, vessels and their cargo worldwide is foundational to our mission,” said Skip Vaccarello, president and CEO for AWT. “We are proud of what GlobalView can provide for our clients, and are honored that Safety at Sea International selected AWT for this award.”

Introduced in 2010 as the first fleet management system to provide critical maritime data within the visual presentation of Google™ Earth technology, AWT’s GlobalView is recognized by Safety at Sea as “a software system that has a direct and significant impact on improving safety of life at sea.” Among its many safety features, GlobalView helps fleet managers identify and monitor pirate activity so they can minimize the risk of attacks. This includes such innovations as color-coded piracy locations, current mothership locations as well as their trajectory, and integration of detailed NATO piracy data and war risk and embargo areas as updated by the Joint War Committee of the IMO – all seamlessly incorporated into the GlobalView fleet management visual system.

GlobalView is the only fleet management system to provide alerts for severe motions and rogue waves, providing an extra level of precaution and safety that can be taken by fleet managers. The fleet management system also shows areas to avoid that have the potential for rogue waves, which are constantly changing based on conditions at sea.

With GlobalView, fleet managers can easily see where severe weather and wave conditions are occurring relative to vessels’ locations, and also view weather forecasts. AWT continuously enhances the wind forecast around tropical cyclones, monsoon areas, and other high-risk areas where conventional model data performs less accurately. Then AWT runs a proprietary WaveWatch III wave model to provide the best short- and medium-range forecast available. The data empowers fleet managers to work together with Captains and AWT to enhance safety at sea.

Now with numerous users from major shipping companies, GlobalView is highly regarded by fleet managers as a one-stop, comprehensive system. AWT customer Cameron MacKenzie, fleet manager, Navigator Shipbrokers said, “GlobalView is amazing! You don’t need anything else after you have GlobalView. Our company is very keen on this product.”
