USA: New River Inlet Urgently Needs Dredging

New River Inlet Urgently Needs Dredging

Billy Thompson, a local fisherman, said that the New River Inlet is in desperate need of dredging.

Because the water is so shallow and the sand so high, Thompson’s boat hits the bottom of the ocean floor almost every day, according to jdnews.com.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that the plan for New River Inlet is part of a dredging contract that will go out to bid on August 23.

Ann Johnson, chief of Public Affairs for the Wilmington district of the Army Corps of Engineers, stated that the money needed to dredge this area simply does not exist at this moment.
