USA: ORPC to Manage RME’s Yakutat Wave Energy Project

Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) announced that its subsidiary, ORPC Solutions will provide project management and regulatory affairs services for a wave energy project in Alaska.

Namely, Resolute Marine Energy (RME) plans to deploy SurgeWECTM wave energy device in Yakutat within its Yakutat Wave Energy Project, which they expect to be completed by 2015.

RME has obtained a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission preliminary permit for the site and is now working with a wide range of regulatory agencies to collect data that will be included in a formal license application to the commission.

Scott Newlun, General Manager of the City and Borough of Yakutat Power Company said: “I’m very pleased to see the progress that’s being made on the Yakutat Wave Energy Project and we’re very excited that ORPC is now a part of the team.”

“I strongly believe that ocean energy will eventually become a large part of the world’s renewable energy mix, and we’re hopeful that Yakutat will be the site of the first commercial wave energy project in the United States.”

RME Co-Founder and CEO, Bill Staby welcomed ORPC’s participation in the project being a company with experience in this industry and strong relationships with regulatory agencies that “will be of great benefit as we move from preliminary to final permit status and start deploying our wave energy converters in 2015.”

Last year in September, ORPC reached a major milestone by installing a tidal energy device in Cobscook Bay, which was the first of its kind to deliver electricity to the grid in USA.
