VBMS Wraps Up Sandbank OWF Cable Installation Project

VBMS has completed cable installation and post-lay burial for Vattenfall’s Sandbank offshore wind farm.

A total of 76 inter-array cables were installed and post-lay buried within a limited time frame of approximately two and a half months.

VBMS deployed its multipurpose vessels Ndurance and Ndeavor in order to simultaneously perform cable installation and placement of messenger wires, cable burial-, cable connection-, and cable testing works.

For this project, VBMS also launched its in-house post-lay burial ROV 107-1100.

“By accommodating all personnel working on the towers onboard the Ndurance and the Ndeavor, we minimised transfer times which contributed to maximum efficiency in execution of the works too”, says Ruud Kromwijk, project manager at VBMS. “By deploying in-house personnel, vessels and equipment we have proven ourselves capable of executing subsea cable installation works to the highest safety- and quality standards within the industry and also within challenging offshore environments in a very limited time frame.”

Cable connection and cable testing works are expected to be wrapped up end of July, completing the scope of VBMS on Sandbank.

The Sandbank offshore wind farm is situated in the German Bight, next to the DanTysk Offshore Windfarm. The 72 wind turbines will generate a total capacity of 288MW.
