Iran Splashes Domestically Built Destroyer “Jamaran 2”
Iran held  a  launching ceremony for  a new domestically built destroyer “Jamaran 2” at the port city of Bandar-e Anzali on March 17,  the BBC informed.

The ceremony was attended by a significant number of defense dignitaries, including that from Iran’s Defence Ministry represented by Gen. Ahmad Vahidi and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Moudge class destroyer, built in cooperation of Iran’s maritime and industrial organizations, belongs to Iranian light frigates and is somewhat advanced design of  the Alvand class (British Saam class).

With the ability to develop a speed from 26 to 30 knots, the 1,420-ton destroyeris equipped with advanced radioelectronics, a heliport, and has max speed up to 30 knots. The ship is armed with up-to-date antiaircraft, antiship, and antisubmarine systems, as well as torpedo tubes and gun mounts.

Iran began construction of destroyer Jamaran 2, 18 months ago.
