VIDEO: Paul R. Tregurtha Runs Aground

The biggest vessel sailing in the waters of Lake Superior, Paul R. Tregurtha, ran aground on Saturday, September 20th in the mud just off the shore of Bayfront Festival Park, Duluth Harbour, the Great Lakes.


The laker, owned by the Interlake Steamship Company, was carrying over 68, 000 tons of coal cargo when it got stuck.

According to the latest reports, the vessel managed to free itself with the assistance of Kentucky and Minnesota tugboats, owned by the Great Lakes Towing Company.

There have been no reports of injury or pollution.

The vessel has been moved to the Duluth Seaway Port Terminal for inspection by the United States Coast Guard.  The 1000 Ft Paul R Tregurtha departed Duluth at 00:20 Sunday morning, Duluth Harbour said.

The cause of the grounding is under investigation.
