Vocus Wins Barossa Subsea Cable Deal

Australia-based telco operator Vocus has entered a contract with the Barossa Joint Venture to build, operate and own a high-capacity submarine fibre-optic network for the proposed Barossa offshore gas project in the Bonaparte Basin, to the north of Darwin.

The solution developed for the Barossa Project is the design, manufacture and installation of a 500-kilometer cable loop, the Bonaparte Basin Cable Loop (BBCL), which will be integrated into the 2,100-kilometer Vocus North West Cable System.

Following a three-year design and construction phase, Vocus would hold a minimum 15-year service term for the operation and maintenance of the network.

Group managing director and CEO of Vocus, Kevin Russell, stated: “We are pleased to build upon our position as Australia’s specialist fibre and network solutions provider. We have developed a highly robust and resilient architecture that will support Barossa and connect to our existing submarine cable assets off the North-West coast of Australia.”
