Wärtsilä to Service Engines aboard BGT’s Six LNG Carriers

Finnish marine engine builder Wärtsilä signed a deal to monitor and service the engines on board six new LNG carriers operated by Nigerian gas transportation company Bonny Gas Transport (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG.

Under the five-year maintenance agreement Wärtsilä will also deliver spare parts, as well as expertise for inspections and major service overhauls.

The six LNG carriers are equipped with five Wärtsilä 50DF engines each and operate primarily on gas.

Bonny Gas Transport will also have around the clock access to online operational and technical support, Wärtsilä said.

“In addition to increasing the engine uptime, Bonny Gas Transport wanted to improve maintenance planning and operative cost control and this is something Wärtsilä can offer. With the continuous remote monitoring of the equipment and the dynamic maintenance planning concept, we can ensure optimal availability while minimising the risk of disruptions to operations,” says Simon Auseth, General Manager Business development, Marine Agreements, Wärtsilä.

Nigeria LNG exports most of its cargo to the European Asian markets.
