Wärtsilä’s order intake grows in first quarter

Finnish engine maker Wärtsilä reported a 7 percent increase in order intake during the first quarter of 2018, boosted by investment in energy infrastructure in emerging markets. 

Orders jumped from €1.41 billion ($1.72 billion) in the first quarter of 2017 to €1.5 billion ($1.84 billion) during the quarter under review.

The company noted in its quarterly report that the net sales increased 6 percent to €1.06 billion from €1 billion in the corresponding quarter in 2017.

The Finnish LNG specialist said demand for Wärtsilä’s services and solutions in 2018 is expected to improve somewhat from the previous year.

For its marine solutions segments, improved demand in the merchant segment and sustained activity in the cruise and ferry markets contributed to growth in orders received.

Wärtsilä’s order book at the end of the period increased 7 percent to €5.49 billion
