Wello joins Ocean Energy Europe

Wello, a Finnish wave energy developer, has become a member of Ocean Energy Europe.

Wello has developed a Penguin wave energy converter that was recently boosted with EUR 17 mln from European Commison’s Horizon 2020 innovation programme.

The funding is aimed at advancing the use of Penguin wave energy converter in electricity grid-connected ocean conditions.

Wello’s Penguin converts waves to electricity with continuous rotational movement.

In a floating element, motion energy is directly captured by a generator, resulting in conversion from motions to electricity without hydraulics, joints or gears, OEE’s press release reads.

Having completed three test periods at EMEC since 2011, Wello recently announced that it is extending its testing programe at European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney with signing of one year extension to their original contract.

Ocean Energy Europe represents the renewable ocean energy sector in Europe, and is based in Brussels.
