Wintershall Opens Bergen Office

Wintershall is continuing to expand its offshore expertise: a new team of staff recently began coordinating the Norwegian offshore production of Germany’s largest internationally active crude oil and natural gas producer from Bergen. The new office was officially opened yesterday together with the mayor of Bergen, Trude Drevland. Wintershall is the second production operator to be based in Bergen.

“With our strong team of highly skilled and experienced specialists in Bergen, we have created a new operations office for our current offshore activities in Norway. The expertise we gain here will also be incorporated into the development of the Maria field as well as future projects,” Bernd Schrimpf, Managing Director of Wintershall Norge said at the opening of the office. The bright new office premises spread over two floors in Espehaugen, just a few minutes away from the airport and heliport, provide enough space for the company’s ambitious growth target: By the end of 2014, Wintershall plans to grow in Norway from currently 500 staff to around 600 members of staff.

Among them, 110 employees work on rotation on the Brage platform. Wintershall Norge employs staff from 18 different countries.

By taking over stakes in the fields Brage, Gjøa and Vega, Wintershall was recently able to increase its production in Norway more than tenfold to 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe). As a fully integrated crude oil and natural gas producer, Wintershall now covers the entire E&P value chain in Norway: from exploration to drilling operations to development and subsequent production.

Wintershall in the North Sea

Wintershall has been active in the North Sea since as far back as 1965. It is one of the largest natural gas producers in the Netherlands and operates 23 offshore platforms there overall. On the Norwegian Continental Shelf, Wintershall Norge holds more than 50 licenses operating more than half of them. The company-wide competence center for offshore technology is based in Rijswijk near The Hague. There Wintershall is working on developing its shallow water expertise, while the focus of its new office in Bergen lies on the coordination of its Norwegian offshore production.
