Wood Group CEO to Address Safety Management at Piper 25, UK
Bob Keiller, chief executive of Wood Group, has been confirmed as the after-dinner speaker at a major three-day conference to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster.
Sponsored by Chevron, the dinner will take place on Wednesday 19 June following the second day of the Piper 25 event. Keiller is a high profile figure for being both an oil and gas industry leader and for his active participation in local communities in the north east of Scotland.
The theme for Keiller’s talk will be safety management and safety leadership. The conference dinner is intended to allow delegates at the event a further chance to network. The dinner is expected to attract around 350 conference delegates, with around 700 people expected to visit the conference itself. Bookings are open and will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
The Piper 25 conference will be held to review how far offshore safety has come since the world’s worst offshore disaster and to re-focus the oil and gas industry’s efforts to continue improving.
Bob Keiller said: “No-one involved in our industry 25 years ago will ever forget the human tragedy of Piper Alpha. It changed the way we think about safety and was the catalyst for radical change in our approach that has undoubtedly made life safer for offshore teams.
“Many of the approaches pioneered in the UKCS following Piper have been adopted internationally.
“The problem with safety however, is just when we think we are in control, another event reminds us that we can never be complacent.
“For me, the last 25 years has been a story of improvements in safety management but if we are to avoid complacency; if we are determined to prevent future tragedies and if we are passionate about putting the safety of our people above all other priorities, then the next 25 years will be about courageous safety leadership.”
The Piper 25 conference will also feature other high profile international speakers.
