Wood Group wins services contract from Sakhalin Energy

Aberdeen-based LNG engineer Wood Group secured a technical support services contract with Sakhalin Energy, the operator of Russia’s first LNG plant, the Sakhalin-2. 

The two companies have previously cooperated with, Wood Group providing engineering and construction support, including studies and modifications, to offshore and onshore assets on Sakhalin Island in Russia.

The new deal expands the services Wood Group is providing by adding brownfield drilling upgrade services, across a number of assets, including Piltun- Astokhskoye-A and Piltun- Astokhskoye-B offshore platforms, Lunskoye-A offshore platform, onshore processing facilities including booster stations 1 and 2, LNG plant, oil export terminal and the tanker loading unit.

Effective immediately, the five-year contract includes two one-year extension options, Wood Group said.

Under the agreement, Wood Group will also be cooperating with a Russian Design Institute (RDI), Gasproektengineering AOJSC (GPE), that will support the service delivery.

The LNG facility located in Prigorodnoye on Russia’s remote Sakhalin Island started producing the chilled fuel back in 2009 from two liquefaction trains with a total production capacity of 9.6 million tons of LNG per annum.

Sakhalin Energy shareholders are Gazprom (50% plus one share), Shell (27,5% minus one share), Mitsui (12.5%) and Mitsubishi (10%).
