WPD’s Wind Energy Capacity Exceeds 1GW

By the end of 2014, WPD AG had increased its own range of wind farms to a total capacity of 1,061 megawatts. This makes the mid cap company with its head office in Bremen one of the leading wind farm operators in the German and European markets.

The wind farms are mainly in Germany and selected European countries, in particular, France, Croatia, Poland, Finland and Belgium.

WPD develops, finances and builds wind power projects in Germany, Europe, Canada, Chile and Asia. By operating its own wind farms and benefiting from the permanent cash flow resulting from it, the company enjoys a high degree of stability and is less dependent on its project business.

“We are delighted to achieve this milestone in our corporate history and we continue to rely on our long-term partnerships with regional project developers, wind turbine manufacturers and banks,” says Dr. Gernot Blanke, Chairman of the Board at WPD AG.

Last year, WPD realised wind farms in Germany with 200 megawatts as well as constructing further wind farms in France and its first ones in Canada and Finland.

The first turbines have also been installed in the Butendiek offshore wind farm. The 288 megawatt project sited in the North Sea will be completed in the coming months.
