Novatek, Russia’s largest independent natural gas producers, has shipped its first Yamal LNG cargo to India. 

The cargo was dispatched through Novatek Gas and Power Asia unit, Novatek said on Tuesday.

The company’s first deputy chairman, Lev Feodosyev added that one of Novatek’s core priorities is the expansion of the supply geography and the growth of the company’s presence in the key Asian markets.

“The first cargo delivered to the growing Indian market is an important development step in this direction,” he said.

Novatek, the operator of the Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic started exporting the chilled fuel from its first liquefaction train in December last year.

At full capacity, the facility would be capable of producing 16.5 million tons of LNG per year, with 15 Arctic LNG carrier dedicated to serving the project.
